A leaner, more linear style of Chardonnay is much in fashion but if you hanker after a more powerful rendition then look no further than The Eleanor 2017 from Stellenbosch property Hartenberg. Matured for 11 months in 228-litre French oak barrels, 30% new, it has a modest alcohol of 13.34% but still packs a punch. The nose shows citrus, apple plus lots of leesy complexity while the palate is rich and thick textured, counter-balanced by vibrant acidity, the finish long and savoury. Layers and layers of flavour. 93/100
