The 2021 vintage consists of five Grenache noir vineyards, with the core a vineyard from the Paardeberg planted in the early 2000’s. Twelve different pickings were done from the five Grenache noir vineyards. A component (60%) of the wine was fermented and matured in concrete. Juice was kept on the skins for four weeks pre-/during fermentation and 60% whole bunches were used. One punch down per day
was done resulting in minimal and gentle extraction. The wine was pressed off and matured in old 500 L neutral French oak barrels as well as a 2 700 L concrete vessel for a year.

A blend of nine varieties that has aromas of lemon rind, chamomile, apricots and crushed stones. It’s textural and phenolic, with a medium to full body and mineral freshness throughout. A little austere and stony, with a touch of aniseed coming through at the end. 51% chenin blanc, 11% semillon, 10% colombard, 8% roussanne, 6% clairette blanche, 6% marsanne, 4% verdelho, 2% viognier and 2% grenache blanc. Four different vineyards on iron, granite, schist and clay soils, supply the fruit for this impressive Swartland Grenache. Fermented with 60% whole bunches followed by a further month on skins, this is deceptively light and ethereal, with redcurrant, strawberry and pomegranate flavours, fine-boned tannins and a mineral core. 2024-29

Husband and wife team David and Nadia Sadie have quickly made a name for themselves with superb, natural and honest wines true to the Swartland. David gained experience both locally (Waterford, Rustenberg and Saronsberg) and internationally (South Pacific Cellars – New Zealand, Chateau Quinault – France, Yves Quilleron – France). His wines are now rated as some of the best in South Africa by influential international and local wine critics.
