Australia could be described as the perfect wine producing country.
Australia has a land mass as great as the United States or western Europe, providing generations of winemakers with a diverse climate from cold to cool to warm and a wide variety of soil types like the famous Coonawarra terra rossa. While Australia has about 60 wine regions, the country has 103 “defined geographic indications” for wine growing districts covering zones, regions and sub-regions. The major wine producing states of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia are divided into zones. The well known “South Eastern Australia” zone includes grape growing areas within South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
